About The Event
The Great Night of Shiva is traditionally an all night celebration of Lord Shiva. Typically celebrated on the last new moon of winter. A traditional Indian Holiday celebrated by Hindus all over the world, at the dark moon before the spring. Considered a “High Holy Night” in the calendar.
Lord Shiva, also known as “The Destroyer of Illusion”, is the originator of yoga practices. Also called “The Auspicious One”. When we sing to, and meditate on Shiva, he reveals the cosmic truth of our existence. Shiva is called the Destroyer of Illusion because he illuminates the basic flaw of the human mind, which is to see things as separate pieces and pairs of opposites (duality). Lord Shiva says, “All Beings, All Creation, All of the Universe, is ONE Large creation, One Being, with no possible separation.” Shiva is the destroyer of our lying minds and deluded states of consciousness.
To the novice or uninitiated this sounds very ominous and confusing! Who wants to get destroyed anyways? However when one sings and prays to, and meditates on Shiva, a deep sense of Inner Peace will overcome the stress, and futility of “normal thinking”. When the mind is finally at rest and the Oneness of All Creation is apparent, the feeling of wellness and gratitude for this consciousness is sweet and powerful.
This night will begin at sunset, 6pm, and continue as long as a quorum of people remain. Besides the main practices of singing and music, we will share stories of Lord Shiva. Sharanam will be your guide, delivering Dharma Meditations and contemplations for Soul Liberation.
Chai Tea will be served and we encourage people to bring light vegetarian snacks to share.
Come with comfortable seating of pillow/blanket/bolster, chair if required. Some props available-- mats are not necessary.
Be prepared to feel the deep state of peace, referred to as “Samadhi”, or Oneness of Being. This feeling of Unified consciousness is the product of all yogic practices, leading to Infinite Realms of Light beyond birth and death which is the ultimate Goal of yoga. We look forward to celebrating with you 🙏🏼
